About Us
Not Just Another Gym
At Power-Station we train ordinary individuals and help them become extra-ordinary. Our objective is true fitness, not just the appearance of fitness. The progammes we offer are based on sound research, extensive training, traditional methods of exercising, our own innovations and what our members tell us ‘works’. We use diverse paths to reach varied, individual objectives. Our methods improve strength, endurance, flexibility and conditioning.
Power-Station is not like other gyms. There are no machines, no chairs to rest on and definitely no “look at me” members. Training is in small groups so that every member gets individualised attention and can plan their exercise to a timetable. The support of other like-minded athletes who are equally dedicated to this style of hard core training provides an environment where everyone can push harder and risk more. There are no casual drop-ins to work out and some of our classes are restricted only to members who have attained the required high level of fitness.
Power-Station is about an utter commitment to the task in hand. Challenging ourselves and experiencing pain is part of that dedication. There are no short cuts or excuses. Just hard work and results!!

Not Just Another Gym
Damian is not one to talk much about himself but ask a question about training techniques and it becomes obvious just how committed he is to the fitness industry. A passion for boxing and martial arts has lead Damian to researching and putting together the best combination of power and overall fitness conditioning methods. Not happy to rely only on what other gyms offer he is living proof that what he teaches puts Power-Station at the leading edge of the fitness industry.
“It’s all very well introducing new programmes and methods to get fit or improve your strength but dismissing some of the traditional systems like Kettlebell just doesn’t make sense. The benefits from interval training are well documented and the old adage of ‘no pain, no gain’ is absolutely true. Too many people today are looking for a quick fix, that magic exercise that will build bulk or cut the fat. Nothing replaces commitment and hard work. I don’t expect any of our members to do anything that I haven’t tried and tested myself”
Born in South Africa, Damian’s experience in martial arts started at an early age and along with his boxing expertise continued into his various training and work experience including the military and close protection industry. Damian is Director and Head Instructor of the Auckland Kali Group and the Pekiti Tirsia Kali representative in New Zealand. Out of the gym Damian specializes in teaching elements of CQB, carjacking countermeasures and tactical edged weapons. He is featured in ‘Masters of the Blade’, a book dedicated to Edged Weapon instructors around the world, and is the author of the e-book Carjacking Countermeasures for Executive Security International, Co USA. Damian has run over 700 security operations in over sixty different countries. He has been a civilian contractor to The SA Special Forces Brigade, SA National Intelligence Service and to members of The SA Police and Prison Services. Damian has trained hundreds of personnel in Close Protection, CQB, and tactical firearms.
Cathy Halforty
It doesn’t take long in Cathy’s presence to realize that power in a woman is something to envy. An equal partner in the business, Cathy is a role model for many Power-Station members. Managing her own fitness wellbeing, motivating members and balancing a busy family life with a young child, are all part of what makes Cathy so inspirational.
“So many women make excuses not to exercise, or they exercise but only give it lip service. What’s the point in that? I firmly believe in the power of the mind and that anything within reason is attainable through focus and action. I especially enjoy seeing that look of “wow I did that” on the faces in my classes. Having a young child means that I can relate to those body issues and free time constraints that many women experience. My focus, however, is not on excuses but on the commitment it takes to better ourselves. We all have the capability – we just need to find the drive”
Cathy’s martial arts background started in the early 90’s and led to a period in Hong Kong where she studied Wing Chun with Sifu Ip Chun and other great martial arts instructors including Dean Jones, Randy Williams, Samuel Kwok and Sifu Ip Ching for a number of years. During that time she traveled through South East Asia and studied various massage disciplines including deep tissue, aromatherapy, Thai massage, reflexology and acupressure.
Back in South Africa, Cathy became co-founder of a Wing Chun Kung Fu school and organised spiritual and health related talks and events before moving into Executive Protection work where she met Damian. It was during and after her pregnancy – with Damian as her trainer – that Cathy started boxing and kettlebell training.
The past 4 years of intensive research and physical conditioning show that Cathy is living proof of what can be achieved with commitment and determination.
